Explore Ella Boleynn’s music and how she got started performing music as part of Joesephella.
I am half of Joesephella along with my husband, Adam Joeseph. Together, we perform indie folk music in Western Michigan and throughout the United States. We’ve been told that our “love is palpable” when we are performing.
I’ve always been a closet singer / songwriter, but it wasn’t until 2021 that I started performing professionally. My husband landed a pretty big gig as a solo artist performing on the streets of Gatlinburg as part of the city’s tourist season. The gig was more than 30 days straight, and it’s the only way Gatliburg allows performers on the strip — which is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the country — so it was a big deal. The day he was hired, he spoke so highly of me that the promoter insisted on meeting me. (Side note: marry someone who speaks this highly of you.) After a brief conversation, she insisted we perform as a duo despite the fact I had no formal training and was “not a musician.” She told my husband he had three months to make me one.
It was one of those things that catapults you forward in ways you never expected, but it was also the fulfillment of so many childhood and early adulthood dreams that I had given up. And so Joesephella debuted in front of hundreds of thousands of people in the summer of 2021.
Since then, I’ve come a long way as a musician and artist. I’m finally able to add music to the lyrics and melody I have written over the years. I always assumed they would live only in my head; now, they are coming to life. We play regularly, mostly throughout Michigan and the midwest. (But we’re available to travel anywhere!)
